“Among the many signs and symbols used by the Church to celebrate its faith, music is of preeminent importance. As sacred song united to the words it forms an integral part of solemn liturgy….The quality of joy and enthusiasm which music adds to community worship cannot be gained in any other way.” (Music in Catholic Worship, #23.)
St. Anthony’s Senior Choir
The Second Vatican Council stated emphatically that “Choirs must be diligently promoted.” St. Anthony’s has a history of fostering good music and that has long included the presence of an adult choir.
The choir’s role is twofold: first, to support the congregation in its musical participation in the liturgy; and second, to sing music both from the traditional sacred music repertoire and by contemporary composers which will contribute to the community’s prayer and worship.
The choir sings during the Sunday 10 a.m. Mass from October to June (except the first Sunday) as well as on special occasions. Rehearsals are held in the church on Saturdays from 2:30PM t0 4:00PM. from September through June. The choir is open to anyone from high school on up. We welcome people who can make the commitment to sing with us each week as well as those who are able to sing with us only for specific celebrations, e.g., Christmas and Easter.
